Buying Guide 2026Filtered Showerheads · 5 min read
I Tested the 5 Most Popular Filtered Showerheads. Only One Got My Thick Hair Clean.
I timed every conditioner rinse for ten weeks. Here's how all five did.

My hair is thick and goes halfway down my back... and for years, rinsing the conditioner out of it took me almost five minutes, every single shower.
Even then, I'd find a slick, coated patch at the back once it dried. My skin felt tight the second I stepped out, too, so I started to suspect my shower.
So I bought the five filtered showerheads everyone buys and put each one on my own shower arm for two weeks. A kitchen timer sat on my shower ledge the whole time.
How I Scored Them
Every head got a score out of 10 on the same five things, and the timer kept me honest.
My kitchen timer lived on the shower ledge for all ten weeks.
Chlorine & Metals Removed
I checked what each filter is actually tested to remove. Chlorine is that pool smell, and it was the first thing I wanted gone.
Water Pressure
Thick hair needs a spray with real push wherever you aim it, or the conditioner just sits at the roots. This is where the timer came in.
What It Did for My Hair and Skin
I checked the back of my hair once it dried, since that's where the slick patch always hid. I also paid attention to whether my skin still felt tight when I got out.
Easy Install & Clean
I put up every head myself, no plumber. Then I wiped each one down once a week and watched for drips and stains.
Price & Guarantee
I compared what each one costs with how long you get to send it back. A head you can return after real showers is worth more to me than a cheaper one you can't.
I figured it would be close. It wasn't.
#1: eskiin Handheld Filtered Showerhead
My top pick for 2026
4.9 / 5
The first morning, I lifted it off the wall and aimed it right at the back of my head... and the timer I'd set for five minutes still had three and a half left when my roots squeaked. By lunch my hair was dry, with no slick patch at the back for the first time in years. Of the five, it's the only one still on my shower arm.

Canopy is the prettiest head I tested, and I really wanted it to win. The scent tablets made my bathroom smell like a nice hotel for the first few days, and it lifts off the wall too, so I could aim it at the back of my head.
But the spray falls like a light rain, and four minutes in, my crown still felt coated. Doing a second rinse every single morning is why I took it down. If your hair is fine and you mostly want the spa feel, you'll probably adore it.

#3: Jolie Handheld Filtered Showerhead
Around $170
3.7 / 5
Jolie is all over Instagram, and honestly, that's why I wanted it. Even aimed right at my roots, the soft spray just sat on top of my hair, so I was back to about four minutes plus a lot of finger work.
The filter is rated for about 84% of chlorine, and the orange stains that showed up around the white nozzles by week two finished it for me. The cartridge was so tight to open I needed a towel to grip it. It still looks the best in a bathroom tour, if that's what you're after.

#4: Hello Klean Filtered Showerhead
Around $100
3.6 / 5
I went in hoping Hello Klean, the plain and sensible one, would surprise me. It went on in a couple of minutes and didn't drip once.
It just never did anything special. My rinse sat around three and a half minutes, and two weeks in, the back of my hair still dried the same as always, so down it came. For easy hair on a tighter budget, it's a fair pick.

#5: AquaBliss Inline Shower Filter
Around $35
2.9 / 5
AquaBliss has thousands of Amazon reviews and the lowest price here, so I was hoping cheap would be enough. It's a white cylinder that screws onto your shower arm, and then your old showerhead screws onto the end of it.
So you keep the exact spray you were already unhappy with, and my rinse stayed stuck near five minutes. It also adds two more joints to the arm, and when the top one started dripping on day six, that was the end of it. It's fine for someone with great pressure who only wants a cheap filter.

Why the Water Comes Out Different
There are two filters, and the order matters. The water hits the one in the handle first, where KDF-55 does the heavy lifting, then the one at the tip, where calcium sulfite catches what's left.
So every drop gets cleaned twice before it touches you. With coconut activated carbon in the mix, those 15 layers remove 98.7% of chlorine and heavy metals, and the spray still comes out up to 2.5x stronger. It's the closest you can get to whole-home filtration without tearing open a wall.
I also like knowing who's behind it. Wes and Maddie St. Amand are a brother and sister who started eskiin in 2023 in Beaverton, Oregon, after Wes fought eczema and Maddie dealt with hair loss and perioral dermatitis.
They went through about 30 prototypes, and they still run it themselves, so you could actually talk to them. Orders ship fast from their own warehouse in Idaho, with real people packing every box.

What to Look For
A real number for chlorine
If the box only says something vague like "purifying," keep scrolling. You want a tested percentage you can compare.
A spray with some push
If a filter softens your spray, you'll pay for it in minutes every morning. Look for one that adds pressure instead.
A head that comes off the wall
The back of thick hair is the hardest part to rinse. A spray you can move gets right under it.
Something you can put up yourself
You shouldn't need a plumber for a showerhead. Look for one that goes on by hand and fits a standard shower arm.
Clicking the handheld into its holder. No tools, and that was my whole install.
What to Avoid
Filters that hide behind your old head
You keep the same tired spray, and every extra joint is one more place to drip.
Brands that won't say what's inside
If a listing won't name what's in the filter, there's usually a reason.
Scent tablets doing the selling
A nice smell is fun for a week. It tells you nothing about what's coming out of the water.
Short return windows
It takes a few weeks of real showers to know if a head works. Skip anything you can't send back after that.
The Winner Is Clear
Ten weeks and five heads later, my kitchen timer had its answer... every other head came up short on pressure or filtering, and the eskiin Handheld was the only one that nailed both. My thick hair rinses clean in a minute and a half now, and my skin doesn't feel tight when I step out.
It was my shower all along.
Aimed straight down at my roots, and the conditioner is out in one pass.
